A Dublin restaurant that was once praised by the late celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain has announced its closure after 15 years in operation.

The Chophouse Bar and Restaurant was featured on Bourdain's TV series "The Layover " back in 2013. In a heartfelt post on Facebook, owners Kevin and Jillian expressed their sadness: "It is with immense sadness that today we announce the closure of our much-loved restaurant in Ballsbridge, after 15 years."

They added, "We have tried everything to keep our business going but the constant rising costs have finally made it impossible to keep your doors open. To EVERYONE over the 15 years - THANK YOU!"

  • Chophouse earned its reputation after Bourdain said it served ‘the best ------- meal I’ve ever eaten in Dublin ’.

During his visit to the gastropub - which he called an idiotic term that implies somewhere with a perfect pint can't have fine quality food - the celebrity chef enjoyed a porterhouse steak.

He also tried pan fried king prawns with lemon, chili, garlic, and smoked paprika butter, and an Irish charcuterie board.

The 'rising costs' Chophouse mentioned, likely refer to a rental dispute between the restaurant owners and the landlord, that reportedly came before the Residential Tenancies Board earlier this year.

The restaurant is just one of many in Ireland's capital who have shut their doors for good, unable to to withstand the rising inflation and rental costs.

Customers expressed their disappointment at the news in the comments section, with one person saying: "I am really sorry to hear this devastating news for you and all your wonderful staff. It's a real tragedy that a business like yours is forced to close. You have been an amazing restaurant and I hope you can develop a new outlet for your wonderful talents."
