    Apalachee High School in Georgia on hard lockdown after 'active shooter opens fire'

    A high school in Georgia is currently under a severe lockdown following an "active shooter" situation inside the premises.

    Several calls were made about a shooting incident at Apalachee High School in Barrow County, Georgia, late Wednesday morning. The school was promptly put on a strict lockdown in response to the reports.

    A helicopter was spotted hovering over the school as police responded to the situation.

    According to reports at least one victim has been airlifted to hospital.

    Videos showed a huge police presence on the scene and appeared to show students running from the scene .

    Worried parents took to social media to express their horror.

    Brittany Lewis expressed her concern on Facebook, stating: "Active shooter is at my kid's school Apalachee High School one has been reported shot I don't know if it's a teacher or student."

    "I'm on the school ground law enforcement is here please pray for us they won't let me in to my children please pray for us please."
