Colt Gray, the 14-year-old Georgia school shooter, and his father Colin made their first court appearance on Friday morning following the horrifying incident that took four innocent lives.

The teenager has been charged as an adult with four counts of felony murder in relation to the Wednesday shooting, according to the charges filed. The investigation is ongoing and no probable cause has been established yet.

His father, Colin, aged 54, was also taken into custody after confessing to purchasing the semiautomatic assault rifle, an AR-15, used in the savage attack as a Christmas gift for his son, as per the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

He is facing charges including four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children. The deadly shooting occurred at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, just outside of Atlanta. Four people were killed, including two teachers and two students, and nine others were injured in the latest mass shooting to shock the United States, reports the Express US .

Investigations into this avoidable tragedy have revealed that the shooter had been on the FBI's radar for over a year due to alerts from his Discord account indicating his disturbing fascination with school shootings. The victims of the shooting include 14-year-old students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, and teachers Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Christina Irimie, 53.

Since the incident, distressing text messages exchanged between students and their families while they were trapped in the school during the lockdown have emerged.

Gray's aunt Annie took to Facebook with a disturbing appeal for compassion following the dramatic ordeal, as she saw her young relative face severe charges. She implored: "I WILL NOT leave my nephew standing alone! ! ! ! When Uvalde happened, I told my own children that 'only hurt people hurt people."

Annie urged caution in judgment, adding: "Just check yourself before you speak about a child that never asked to deal with the bull**** he saw on a daily basis."

But she was careful to also show respect for the others affected, stating: "I will NOT disrespect other parents and families that are dealing with this tragedy on the opposite end."

She expressed deep sympathy for the victims' families, emphasizing: "They DID NOT DESERVE THIS! ! ! ! I WILL NOT do anything but humbly support the families involved in this incident that did not ask to be participants! ! ! !."
