    Despite being the smallest city in Ireland , Co Kilkenny doesn't let its size deter it from being a top destination for tourists visiting the Emerald Isle.

    With a population of just around 27,000, this city may be small but it's packed with enriching experiences .

    Kilkenny Castle

    Kick off your Kilkenny adventure with a visit to Kilkenny Castle. Founded shortly after the Norman conquest of Ireland, the castle has been used in various ways for over 800 years.

    Today, it is primarily a Victorian remodel of the original 13th-century defensive castle. It boasts an impressive 50 acres of rolling parkland, orienteering trails, a rose garden, a tea room, and a playground.

    Medieval Mile Museum

    For history enthusiasts, the Medieval Mile Museum in Kilkenny is a must-visit. Located within a medieval church, the museum transports you back to a time when Ireland was almost unrecognisable.

    The exhibitions here house a variety of artefacts, and there's also a large glass window offering fantastic city views. Additionally, the museum provides guided walks of the Medieval Mile Trail, an excellent way to explore the tales of the old city on its cobblestoned streets.

    Smithwick's Experience

    Smithwick's is Ireland's favorite ale, and in Kilkenny, you can experience it in a truly unique way. The local brewery offers guided tours and beer tastings.

    During a tour, you'll learn about the ale's 300-year history. In fact, the tour guides will take you back beyond Smithwick's inception and teach you how Kilkenny became the birthplace of Smithwick's amidst the arrival of Henry VIII and The Reformation.

    Embrace the spirit of hurling

    If Kilkenny is known for one thing, it's arguably hurling. Voted the number one attraction in Kilkenny by Tripadvisor users, The Kilkenny Way Hurling Experience takes visitors on a two-hour journey through this ancient sport.

    Tours are held daily at the home of the famous Kilkenny Cats. You'll also learn how to play hurling here, meaning you'll leave with a seriously impressive new skill.

    Top-notch grub

    Kilkenny's food scene is not to be overlooked. There are fantastic restaurants here serving a wide range of top-quality Irish fare and international cuisines.
