Justin Rose supports Jon Rahm's Ryder Cup bid amidst LIV Golf challenges

Justin Rose has hinted to Jon Rahm that there's still a chance for him to maintain his Ryder Cup eligibility , even after his move to LIV Golf, as long as he manages to fulfill his DP World Tour commitments in time.

Since jumping ship to LIV last year, questions have circled about Rahm's position with Team Europe , especially given that he hasn't completed the required four appearances on the DP World Tour annually to remain in good standing - a point crucial for those aiming for a spot on Luke Donald's 2025 European Ryder Cup team, set to compete at Bethpage Black.

Rahm, a key figure in Team Europe's Rome victory, needs to play three more DP World Tour events before time runs out, placing his participation in jeopardy.

Rose, Rahm's colleague from the 2023 squad, is keen to see him at New York next September but highlighted with understanding that the DP World Tour needs to look out for its interests amid the LIV Golf circuit dispute.

"No matter where the world rankings say he is, or, you know, the golf and the players he's competing against, or how he competes, we know what a great player he is," Rose commented, adding, "You want him on the team. He was such a massive part of our win in Rome. He played Scottie Scheffler [in the singles] and that half he had there was huge."

Justin Rose, a six-time Ryder Cup veteran, said: "It kept momentum, kept belief. You want your front-runners to go out there and do the job, and he did that. So yeah, he's a valuable part of the team."

Rose also reminded Rahm of his obligations to the DP World Tour, stating: "From my point of view, there's a pathway to play the Ryder Cup if he wants it."

"And I think that's all the DP World Tour can do. They have their interests to protect, and I still think that it's a doable situation should the player want to do it enough. That's my view on it. I think there's a pathway. And, you know, everyone makes their choices, and I respect everybody's choice. [But] no-one's saying you can't play."

Rahm has opportunities to fulfill his DP World Tour commitments, but there are some hurdles. He previously expressed his desire to participate in Spain's national championship in October, contingent on the status of his wife Kelley's pregnancy.

"We're still in conversations with the Tour," he mentioned regarding his membership discussions. "I haven't been able to play any Tour events, so yeah, we're going to have to sort it out before I want to tee it up hopefully at the Spanish Open.

"At this point, I'm so still waiting on what might happen with my wife and daughter that I don't know if I'll be able to play or not. So my fall is still a little bit of a question mark when it comes to playing golf."
