Eve Hewson, daughter of U2 frontman and global activist, Bono , has admitted she never knew whether people only liked her because of her very famous father.
The 33-year-old has had a very impressive career thus far, boasting roles in hit Apple TV+ show, Bad Sisters , and Oscar-nominated film, Flora and Son . She may soon become a household name on both sides of the pond when she stars in the upcoming Netflix murder mystery series The Perfect Wife opposite Hollywood legend Nicole Kidman.
Beneath it all, though, Hewson admits she was affected growing up "among rock stars and supermodels," one of them being her international musician dad. This rang true particularly when it came to friendships.
Hewson always wondered whether people were only friends with her because of her dad, she revealed to the New York Times. As a result, the actor learned not to rely on the validation of others , and to know who she was.
“I don’t really believe in other people’s opinions,” Hewson said. "Obviously it affects me, but I’ve learned to trust myself and trust my gut and trust my taste .
“When people come up to me and say, ‘You’re the crazy wife from that show on Netflix,’ I’m like, ‘Oh, you’re actually recognising me and my work,’” They probably have no idea of the connection or don’t even care . It’s a nice feeling.”
Hewson recently fired back at claims she is a "nepo baby" - a term often ascribed to her - with a 13-word slap down. She doesn't shy away from the fact that having a famous dad helped her on the road to stardom , though.
A tutor she had while touring with U2, an aspiring filmmaker, cast her in a short which was her first acting gig . Hewson was determined that pursuing a career that could bring its own fame and attention wouldn't hold her back.
“I was just like, I’m going to do this; I’m obsessed with this; this is just going to happen,” she went on. “I kind of can’t believe I did it.”
Despite her desire to somewhat distance herself from her father when it comes to prospective roles and opportunities in the acting world, Hewson has recounted wise words she has received from Bono over the years.
Speaking to Radio Times, Hewson explained: "I've gotten so much advice my whole life, it's been wonderful. Someone once said to me that no matter who you are, if you get mega-famous, you're going to be very weird for about seven years . You'll start to think everything you do is important. It's something you have to watch out for."

Hewson has just wrapped filming a part in Noah Baumbach’s new movie starring George Clooney and Adam Sandler , and is about to start a television pilot from Alec Berg (Barry) set in the world of Formula One racing.
