Scottie Scheffler's caddie's savage response to troll's 'overrated job' jibe

Scottie Scheffler's caddie, Ted Scott, gave a sharp retort to an online critic who implied that his job could easily be filled by one of 10 million others . Scott, having a 15-year tenure with Bubba Watson under his belt, teamed up with the world's leading golfer, Scheffler, in 2021 and has significantly contributed to the golfer's victories across fairways and greens.

A caddie's duties go much deeper than just carrying a heavy golf bag and choosing clubs; they are instrumental in unseen ways, such as closely assessing the course for accurate yardages to greens and aiding with club selections that help their golfing partners secure wins. Scheffler, with Scott on his bag for the past three years, has chalked up a remarkable 13 PGA Tour victories and secured two major titles, with triumphs at the Masters in 2022 and 2024.

Despite these achievements, some skeptics question Scott's impact, leading to his biting comeback to one naysayer on social media earlier this month . Seasoned caddie Kip Henley jokingly offered on X last week: "I will pay @jtedscott 1.5 million dollars to let me caddie for him next year. That's risky but I think it's a solid plan. Teddy Boy can sit on the couch and not have to worry about stepping in a hole and spranging an ankle. That's fair."

The satirical post led to a witty back-and-forth when a social media user remarked: "Caddie' is the most overrated 'job' in history. There are literally 10M people in the US that could do Ted's job," reports the Mirror .

Scott, not one to ignore such comments, responded with a sharp comeback: "Wrong. Not everyone would want to spend time with you because you're negative and tweet mean stuff. So that leaves 9,999,999 people that could do my 'job'."

Caddies usually get a weekly salary for their efforts on the course, but they can also earn a cut of the prize money if their player wins a tournament. Scott is estimated to have made a whopping $5,269,444 (£4million) this season, thanks to Scheffler's outstanding performances - including wins at high-profile tournaments like The Masters and the Arnold Palmer Invitational, which are believed to have earned the caddie over $360,000 each.

After Scheffler's recent victory at the TOUR Championship, it's reported that he added a staggering $25,000,000 (£19,079,745) to his wealth, from which Scott is said to have taken a handsome ten percent, or about $2.5m (£1.9m). If these numbers hold true, Scott's £ 4 million earnings for 2024 would surpass golf icon Tiger Woods for the PGA Tour season, as well as more than 200 other professional golfers, ranking him an impressive 19th among the sport's highest earners.
