A sports documentary following the epic 1988 Notre Dame game versus University of Miami is coming to Netflix .

The program is one of a series of ESPN documentaries called 30 for 30. The franchise has won numerous awards for their widespread sports coverage, including an Emmy, Oscar and Peabody award.

The episode is called Catholics Vs. Convicts takes a look at what some say is “one of the greatest games in college football history.” IMDB called it tradition vs. swagger, as the Fighting Irish , ranked No. 4 at the time, took on the No. 1-ranked Hurricanes.

The name came from the infamous t-shirts made by Notre Dame students that read “Catholics vs. Convicts.” The slogan drew on Notre Dame’s catholic background and Miami’s players’ reputation of being “bad boys” after multiple players had arrest records.

The rivalry between the two teams started at the Orange Bowl in 1985, when Miami beat Notre Dame in a humiliating loss of 58-7. The game was the last for head coach Gerry Faust.

When the teams met up again in 1988, they were both undefeated. Notre Dame's new coach Lou Holtz and Miami's coach Jimmy Johnson were both renowned at the time.

With several tricky plays and some contested calls, the documentary takes a look back at the high stakes game. Notre Dame came out the victors of that game, barely beating Miami 31-30.

It also follows director Patrick Creadon’s experience as a Notre Dame senior who knew the students behind the shirts.

Catholic Vs. Conflicts was nominated for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series at the Emmy Awards in 2017. John Anderson wrote for The Wall Street Journal that the documentary is a "gripping gridiron drama," making it one of the bests of the 30 for 30 franchise.

It will be streaming on Netflix Sept. 16.
