A Walmart shopper has taken to TikTok to warn shoppers against an untrue belief about pricing.

The TikToker, under the username @oldnerdreviews, posted a video at Walmart comparing the prices of Maruchan Ramen Noodles. The noodles are known for their cheap price , normally costing less than $1.

It’s usually thought that buying in bulk is cheaper than buying individual packaged goods. @oldnerdreviews took to TikTok to share that isn’t the case with ramen from Walmart .

He showed the individual packs of ramen, sitting above the 12-packs of the chicken-flavored noodles. The individual packs cost just 30 cents.

In the video, he said: “Usually, when you buy in a package rather than singles, it’s a lower price because that’s the way they want you to go. Right? That makes sense. That’s marketing.”

That’s not true for Maruchan Ramen Noodles at Walmart. The 12-pack is priced at $3.68.

If a shopper were to just buy 12 individual packs of ramen, they would only spend $3.60 – eight cents less than the 12 pack.

While that’s not much cheaper, it still proves that buying in bulk isn’t the cost-saving hack some think it is.

“How’s that make any sense anymore? Makes sense out of that,” he said.

In the comments, some theorized you could be spending the extra eight cents on the cardboard packaging of the 12 pack of ramen.

One said: “Maybe they charge for the cardboard? Or more plastic to wrap it.”

Another wrote: “It is important to look at the per item/per oz amount. Buying in bulk has typically been cheaper, but over the last year or so I've noticed there is less & less of a savings gap for buying in bulk.”

One person added that they don’t mind paying the extra eight cents for convenience.

“It’s more convenient to buy one box than 12 individual packs falling all over the place idk,” they said.
