Amiah Prather, aged 22, was found with a gunshot wound to the head in her car close to the junction of 65th St. and 13th Ave. Initially, law enforcement struggled to identify her until her friend, Taziya La' Shay, stepped forward to do so.
Prather, who was expecting her fourth child - to whom she intended to give the name Honesti - tragically perished alongside her unborn baby after being taken to a local hospital by the Kenosha Fire Department.
Investigators are now urgently seeking Lawrence G. Franklin Jr, the suspected assailant, described as 5 feet, 3 inches in height, and weighing around 105 pounds. He is currently evading capture and is deemed extremely dangerous.
In other recent distressing news, a hunter made a grim discovery of a missing toddler's remains on his property in Wisconsin, and a college gymnast, a national champion, was shot and killed at only 21 years old near their university campus.
After returning home on that fateful Friday and being met with a heavy police operation, one neighbor expressed the dread she felt, anticipating terrible news. The police reported that officers talked to several witnesses and conducted a meticulous search of the surrounding area for any evidence that could assist their investigation.
The incident struck a particularly harrowing chord with Gibson, a resident, who relayed: "It's absolutely heartbreaking to me especially being a mother," she declared. "I don't care what was going on in their lives, nobody deserves that. Nobody deserves that."
Neighbour Filemon Galvan reported that he arrived home post-incident, but his mother and niece were present when the shooting occurred.
"They said that there was a loud disagreement in the street between a couple and her sister was there," Galvan recounted. "They were kind of yelling back and forth and before you know it, shots rang out."
Another local, who preferred to stay unnamed, mentioned that the victim's sister was desperately seeking assistance throughout the neighborhood, knocking on doors and pleading for help.
Galvan also reflected on the broader impact of the tragedy, saying, "You lose three lives, that woman, someone's daughter, somebody's sister, the child and the [suspect]. His mother and father love him. He threw away his whole life."
Both Gibson and Galvan shared their deep sorrow over the events and extended their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
"Your family didn't deserve to go through this, and that beautiful young woman didn't deserve to lose her life or her unborn child," Gibson expressed. "I hope you guys seek justice and retribution that you deserve."
The Kenosha Police Department is urging anyone with details about the suspect's location or information regarding the homicide to get in touch via their non-emergency contact number at 262-656-1234.
