Jon Rahm and LIV Golf dealt blow as rival tour snub financial peace offering

The DP World Tour has firmly turned down a peace offering from LIV Golf, which sought to resolve the fines owed by its players and permit them unrestricted return to the European tour.

Ever since LIV Golf burst onto the scene in summer 2022, the DP World Tour's relationship with the breakaway circuit has been tense. Nearly a year on from LIV's first tournament, the DP World Tour triumphed in an arbitration case, securing the right to levy fines and suspensions on members who participate in LIV's "conflicting" events.

This ruling prompted several high-profile European golfers, such as Ian Poulter, Sergio Garcia, and Lee Westwood, to give up their DP World Tour memberships to sidestep further penalties.

More recently, attention has turned to Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton, two key Ryder Cup players. They have challenged the DP World Tour's sanctions, hoping to compete this autumn and strengthen their chances for next year's Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.

Despite these events, former world No. 1 Rahm has stated his refusal to settle any outstanding fines, reports the Mirror US .

Last week, Rahm expressed his discontent: "I'm not a big fan of the fines," adding, "I've been outspoken about the fines. I don't intend to pay the fines and we keep trying to have a discussion with them about how we can make this happen."

Executives from the controversial LIV Golf series have reputedly been in talks with the DP World Tour to settle their differences, reports Sports Illustrated. A reply from a spokesperson for the DP World Tour to Mirror Sports reads: "We met with them and listened to their proposal but did not accept it, as our view remains that the focus should continue to be on all stakeholders working together to reach an overall solution that benefits our sport."

    LIV Golf's response remains awaited.

The emerging reports hint at the rogue league suggesting an arrangement back in August to allow a seamless transition between the tours, plus a compensatory fee earmarked for the European tour, supposedly about $8 million. The heads at LIV Golf even offered an exemption spot for DP World Tour players at the Asian Tour's 10 International series competitions.

Despite these offerings, it's believed that the DP World Tour has rebuffed the proposition. In a gesture of good faith within the deal that was turned down, LIV had committed to avoiding scheduling clashes with some of the DP World Tour's key events, though this weekend's LIV Team Championship in Dallas is happening alongside the prestigious BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Despite representatives from both sides meeting in August, they were unable to come to a consensus. As a result, several of Europe's leading golfers will not be participating in the flagship event, including Hatton, who clinched the championship at the Surrey setup in 2020.
