Local resident Frank McGinity got the cold shoulder after being ignored at the gates of the Sussexes' deluxe multi-million-dollar estate and said that "they're not interested" in making friends. The US Navy veteran wanted to offer his historical films on Montecito to help the pair adjust but was rebuffed by their security detail.
The 88-year-old writes: "The gate guy turned me away and wouldn't take the film, just saying 'they're not interested'. I was trying to be neighbourly. If they were interested in the neighbourhood I've got a lot of information."
McGinity was shocked when he learned that Meghan and Harry had chosen the Riven Rock Estate for their home, an area known as a retreat for older demographics rather than young families, as per reports by the Express.
He was quoted saying: "It's surprising they came here. People are typically older. It's where the elephants come to die." Chatting with the Montecito Journal, he added: "We don't see them very much around here."
Harry and Meghan's neighbour, Richard Mineards, has told The Telegraph he's barely seen the couple about town, pointing out that the locals are eagerly "waiting for them" and "gnashing at the bit." On the flip side, Barry Maher aired his grievances to the Mirror about the Sussexes' "travelling soap opera", noting how they picked a "considerably pricier spot" yet remain scarce in public view.
Furthermore, a real estate guru has commented on the hefty price tag of Harry and Meghan's swanky $14 million Montecito mansion, implying the running costs must be sky-high. Eric Bramlett from Bramlett Residential divulged to Fabulous magazine, "Managing a £12 million ($14 million) mansion like Harry and Meghan's in Montecito takes a lot of work."
He goes on to say a substantial crew is likely required, including house cleaners, a private chef, and security staff.
Bramlett went into specifics about the expenses involved, asserting: "Just paying the staff salaries, utilities, landscaping, maintenance, security, and more could easily cost hundreds of thousands per year." The Sussexes have been contacted by Express.co.uk for comment.
