Florida woman 'punched girl in face and threatened to break her nose' over homework mistakes

A 35-year-old woman from Florida has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a young girl for making mistakes on her homework. Margaret Gissome was taken into custody and is facing a felony charge of aggravated child abuse.

According to the arrest report, the victim, whose age hasn't been disclosed, was doing her homework with her siblings in Gissome's bedroom when the suspect became upset due to incorrect answers.

It's alleged that Gissome grabbed the girl by the collar and punched her in the face "with a close fist" multiple times. The victim also told investigators that the suspect shook her and hit her in the chest.

The alleged assault resulted in the victim suffering a busted blood vessel in her left eye and a bruise on her lower lip, according to reports. The girl also claimed that Gissome threatened further violence and warned her "not to worry about your lip because your nose will be next."

According to her arrest report, seen by WPTV, Gissome works in "occupational care" and was referred to as "Miss" by the girl. The suspect appeared in court on Friday and a judge set her bond at $2,500, reports the Mirror US .

She was also instructed to avoid any contact with the girl and not to interact with any minors unless their parents are informed of her child abuse charge. In Florida , the punishment for aggravated child abuse can be as severe as 30 years in prison, 30 years' probation, and a fine of $10,000.

This law is applicable to anyone who is responsible for the child's welfare, including parents, guardians, caregivers, and other adults in authoritative positions.
