The severed tail cone of the doomed Titan submersibl e has been spotted resting on the ocean floor in never-before-seen footage .

A deep-sea dive sent back images and videos of the Titan's tail cone - the cone-shaped tip of the vessel - at the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean after its fateful voyage in June 2023.

The eerie footage was released by the Coast Guard Marine Board of Investigation on Tuesday as part of the ongoing public hearing over the wreck, which killed all five passengers who boarded to see the wreckage of the Titanic.

This video led to the conclusive evidence of the catastrophic loss of the submersible Titan and the death of all five members aboard,” the Coast Guard Marine Board of Investigation wrote alongside the video.

A fragment of the sub's tail cone is crushed into the sand more than 3,775 meters (around 12,500 feet) deep, according to the remotely operated camera. In one clip, the OceanGate logo is clearly visible.

It comes after an employee who dubbed the sub unsafe before it made its final, fatal voyage testified on Tuesday that the tragedy could have been prevented if a federal safety agency had investigated his complaint.

David Lochridge, OceanGate’s former operations director, said he felt let down by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s decision not to follow through on the complaint .

“I believe that if OSHA had attempted to investigate the seriousness of the concerns I raised on multiple occasions , this tragedy may have been prevented,” he said.

“As a seafarer, I feel deeply disappointed by the system that is meant to protect not only seafarers but the general public as well.”

Lochridge made the statement before a commission trying to determine what caused the Titan to implode en route to the wreckage of the Titanic last year, around 2.5 miles down.
