Netflix viewers have warned others to be cautious when watching the latest real-life inspired release on the streaming service.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story has viewers flocking to social media to warn others about the graphic violence contained in one of the gut-wrenching scenes.

The series is a follow-up to Ryan Murphy’s hit 2022 true crime drama Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story which saw Evan Peters star as the terrifying cannibalistic serial-killer in the gripping series. Now Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story shares with viewers the tale of brothers Erik and Lyle Menendez who murdered their parents in Beverly Hills in 1989.

The series sees Nicholas Alexander Chavez (General Hospital) and Cooper Koch (They/Them) star as the brothers, with Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny portraying their tragic parents. Many Netflix fans have been left traumatized after watching the murder scene on the show admitting they found the reenactment extremely graphic and shocking.

Taking to social media one viewer wrote: “Fam, I’m watching Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story... They didn’t have to make the scene when they killed their parents that graphic. SHEESH.” A second said: “I was actually shaken by how graphic the murder scene was.”

A third posted: “It’s Ryan Murphy, I shouldn’t have been, but it was horrific to watch. Both of the boys are actually incredible.” A fourth social media user noted: “Gahlee, Monsters is graphic as f***.” A fifth offered: "Watching Monsters and I feel actually traumatized after that murder scene. What on earth is the need for that level of detail it turned my stomach."

The series is proving popular with viewers since it was released and has already risen to the number one spot on the most watched TV charts on Netflix, overtaking the recent murder/mystery hit The Perfect Couple.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story is available to stream on Netflix now.
