Hollywood royalty Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas left diners gobsmacked during a surprise visit to a well-liked Dublin establishment this Wednesday.

The celebrity duo turned more than a few heads while savouring a cosy lunch at South Dublin's The Gables, coinciding with celebrations for each of their birthdays.

Michael reached the grand age of 80, while Catherine was celebrating her 55th, not long after reports emerged suggesting the two may have been struggling financially .

An insider revealed that the couple, much in love, casually strode in without booking, causing quite the stir amongst other patrons.

Catherine caused quite the buzz earlier when she posted a stunning 'birthday suit' photo on Instagram to commemorate her day on Wednesday.

On the big day, the Welsh actress shared a monochromatic yet bold throwback photo on Instagram, where she can be seen adorned only in sky-high strappy heels.

Posing in a decadently marbled bathroom, featuring a sophisticated sink and a sizeable bathtub, she made a statement with her hair dramatically swept back.

"In my birthday suit! After over 25 years of sharing my birthday day with my husband, I am running out of gift ideas!," she captioned. "This is gift option two, golf balls being option one... of course."

Not to be overshadowed, her spouse Michael Douglas didn't miss the chance to honor their shared birthday on Instagram. He uploaded an elegant black-and-white picture of Catherine dressed in a stylish lace gown complemented by hanging earrings.

In a heartfelt message, Michael penned alongside his post: "To my birthday sister, I love you with all my heart! May your new year be the best!"
