Netflix recently added a film that action-movie fans are comparing to classics like The Departed and The Town.

The streaming giant added The Informer - a dark crime thriller that was released in 2019.

The plot follows Pete Koslow, an ex-con who is released early from prison on the condition that he work as an undercover informant for the FBI to help dismantle the Polish mafia’s drug trade in New York.

When the FBI’s operation goes awry, resulting in the death of an undercover NYPD cop, Pete is coerced into returning to Bale Hill, the prison he previously served time in for manslaughter, to take down the cartel from the inside. Pete is played by Joel Kinnaman and he is accompanied by some A-list actors, like Ana de Armas, Clive Owen, Common and Rosamund Pike.

Despite never getting a major cinema release, The Informer has rave reviews on social media and critic sites like Rotten Tomatoes. One audience member wrote: “My favorite movie right now is The Informer. Its not like your by-the-numbers action/crime/suspense/drama, IT'S BETTER. First movie to make me cry. That ending makes sense. What a ride.”

Amanda C wrote: “Gripping film from the start… Joel Kinnaman was excellent as the main character in this film and I was rooting for him all the way through. Rosamund Pike was also very good.”

Polish? And Mafia? Using the Italian term for all organized crime. Get into the 21st Century. It’s ORGANIZED CRIME. NOT THE MAFIA. JEEEZ and people are worried about what pronouns to use?
