Netflix's Virgin River fans left with 'whiplash' over one element of season 5

Fans of Virgin River have voiced their displeasure over a perplexing aspect in the fifth season , with one viewer confessing it caused them "whiplash".

The hit Netflix show tracks the life of nurse Mel Monroe (portrayed by Alexandra Breckenridge), who relocates to a quaint town following a personal tragedy and swiftly develops feelings for former Marine Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson).

Upon her arrival, she secures employment at the community clinic managed by Vernon 'Doc' Mullins (Tim Matheson) and gets acquainted with his spouse, the local mayor Hope McCrea (Annette O'Toole).

Throughout five seasons, including two Christmas specials, Mel has been entangled in an array of town gossip, urgent situations, and even criminal activities, discovering that small-town existence is far from dull.

Season five escalated the drama as townsfolk navigated new romances, health frights, and a forest blaze - leading one viewer to comment on the overwhelming pace, reports the Express .

"Why is everyone jumping from one relationship to another? " they queried on a recent Reddit discussion. "None of the main characters are allowed to just be single for ONE MINUTE even after a breakup. Haha getting whiplash from the quick jumps between people in relationships/situationships. And it's supposed to be a small town! Where are all these eligible dating prospects popping up from!."

Jack's sister Brie Sheridan (Zibby Allen) is a prime example, with her love life progressing rapidly with Mike Valenzuela (Marco Grazzini) following her split from Dan Brady (Ben Hollingsworth). Meanwhile, Preacher (Colin Lawrence) has been growing close to firefighter Kaia Bryant (Kandyse McClure), even dropping the L-bomb surprisingly early into their budding romance.

One fan highlighted Preacher's approach, expressing: "Preacher is the main one I'm thinking of, he just seems very passive, like he is fine to date any woman in his proximity for 5 minutes. And he's just so unaffected when things don't work out. I do like his character, I just have been unimpressed with the writing/plot for his relationships."

"This pattern is observed with others too Brady, Brie, and Lizzie (Sarah Dugdale), even Jack and Mel initially. It's like nobody waits to get over one love affair before diving into another."

Another viewer chimed in about the soap-like rapid timeline: "Especially considering that all of this happened within one year!." With the whirlwind that Virgin River's storylines have been, all before Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) manages to deliver her baby, it's clear fans are finding the pace a bit hard to believe.
