As the world continues to debate Ryan Murphy’s latest series Monsters , Hulu and Disney+ have added another gripping series from the famed creator.

Grotesquerie, the new horror thriller mystery series, was created by Murphy who gained notoriety with shows like American Horror Story and The Watcher. The new series echoes the same eerie, supernatural vibe as those before it.

The plot centers around an alcoholic detective named Lois Tyson who is investigating a string of extremely shocking murders inspired by passages in the Bible. Struggling to comprehend the almost ‘unhuman’ killings, Tyson is approached by Sister Megan, a quirky local young nun who covers true crime for a Catholic news service. The duo work together to catch the culprit.

Ryan Murphy is a fan of casting actors from previous projects and has once again done so. Niecy Nash, who plays Lois Tyson, previously appeared in Dahmer and Scream Queens , both created by Murphy. However, the series will also feature one exciting cast member in their first major acting role. Kansas City Chiefs’ star Travis Kelce has been photographed on set and appears as a dark, brooding figure in the trailer. Little other information about character has been revealed.

Critics who got a sneak preview of the show have showered it with praise. The Guardian wrote: “Grotesquerie looks eerily beautiful, in its gothic gloom… The fact that it opts for slow creeping dread over jump scares – though there are a couple of those thrown in – makes it all the more chilling.”
