A reboot is reportedly on the cards for an iconic '90s psychological thriller.

The Hand That Rocks the Cradle was first released in 1992, starring Annabella Sciorra as Claire Bartel – a happily married wife and mother-to-be who, after being assaulted by her doctor during a routine check-up, reports him to the police.

When the stress of the accusations and their fallout causes the doctor’s own pregnant wife, Peyton (Rebecca De Mornay), to have a miscarriage, she becomes obsessed with getting revenge against Claire.

The thriller received rave reviews and was hugely successful, grossing around $140 million at the box office . Now, the creators are trying their hand at a new take on the old classic .

Horror film veteran Maika Monroe has reportedly signed on to take part in the project, playing the role that previously belonged to Rebecca De Mornay, as Claire Bartel. The other role, which was previously played by Annabella Sciorra is still open.

This year, Monroe starred alongside Nicholas Cage in another thrilling horror titled, Longlegs. She also starred in the 2022 film The Watcher, solidifying her status as horror movie royalty. Horror fans are hoping that the rest of the cast will measure up to Monroe.

The original 1992 movie got its name and inspiration from a poem by William Ross Wallace that praises motherhood as the preeminent force for change in the world: ‘The Hand That Rocks the Cradle Is the Hand That Rules the World’.
