The 'strategic' reason Diddy's 'accusers' lawyer held 'lawsuit press conference'

Over 120 individuals have leveled sexual abuse allegations against the infamous rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs this week.

Despite facing a slew of charges including racketeering and sex trafficking, the entertainment tycoon has maintained his innocence in court, refuting all accusations made against him.

A press briefing was conducted on Tuesday in Houston, Texas , to outline the forthcoming legal actions these 120 accusers intend to take against Diddy . Speaking with The Mirror, entertainment attorney Tre Lovell from The Lovell Firm disclosed insights into why lawyer Tony Buzbee might have opted for a public announcement of the impending lawsuits.

"The strategy for having a press conference ahead of filing the cases is based on a couple of things," Tre noted. "First, the goal is to let the public know about these claims and allegations in the hopes of getting additional victims/plaintiffs, and a press conference can do this very effectively."

Moreover, it could serve as a tactic to prompt other potential defendants in the case to reach a settlement before their identities become known. At the press event, Buzbee hinted that Diddy isn't the sole high-profile celebrity involved in the upcoming legal battles and that the public would be "shocked" by the names implicated, reports the Mirror US .

Those at risk of being implicated may seek to settle privately before they are publicly identified. "The attorneys will reach out to potential defendants and try to settle the cases in lieu of naming them," Tre remarked.

"The desire for potential defendants (i.e. celebrities, executives, well-known people, venues, companies) to maintain anonymity and avoid being outed or shamed in a lawsuit involving P. Diddy's criminal conduct will be very high and the motivation to settle very significant," he continued.

"Once a defendant has been named, then not only will this leverage disappear, but the defendants may feel they are forced to defend themselves since their image has been attacked publicly and be desirous of settlement."

Additionally, these new accusers stepping forward could potentially bolster the federal indictment and other lawsuits against Diddy. "The prosecutors will be taking a look at the witnesses and evidence in these new cases for the purpose of strengthening their current case and possibly expanding the indictment," Tre explained.

"These cases may spawn state and local criminal prosecutions that are not barred by the statute of limitations and/or are otherwise meritful," he said. "These cases may provide witnesses, facts and evidence that an LA District attorney or Manhattan District attorney may feel is a case they can bring."
