A star from the Mamma Mia franchise has spoken out in support of Sabrina Carpenter joining the cast of the upcoming third film.

Amanda Seyfried who plays Sophie in both movies expressed how happy she is to see a third installment in the works. Although, according to her, she has not yet seen a script for the project. This leaves it open to additional cast members , and one name in particular has been popping up again and again.

Fans are gunning for Carpenter to take on a role in the new movie. The pop singer recently performed a rendition of the movie’s title track by ABBA at her concert in Madison Square Garden . Fans suggested she could play Sophie’s daughter - continuing with the theme of maternal relationships that drive the plot of both films.

Seyfried discussed the possibility of this plotline with ABC News saying, “You know what? Old age makeup for me. That’s what it will be… I’m an actor. I’ll do it. If Sabrina Carpenter wants to play my daughter, I’ll make it happen. It’s fine. I’m a big fan.”

Seyfried is just 13 years Carpenter’s senior, which may create a plot hole, but the 38-year-old actress seems committed to making it work. Additionally, Cher, who is three years older than Meryl Streep played her mother in the second film. The binaries of age have never been an issue for the producers of Mamma Mia, as the scenes in both films flash back and forth in time.

Streep’s character Donna passed away in the sequel but she said that the producers are finding a way to include her in the new project.
