She was crowned Queen Camilla on May 6, 2023, after King Charles III's ceremonial accession to the throne. Despite her new title, columnist and author Hilary Rose notes that Camilla's journey to monarchy wasn't always a sure bet, as the former Queen had once referred to her as "that wicked woman."
However, Rose's publication 'The Secret Diary of Queen Camilla' suggests that the relationship between the two women warmed due to their shared love of horses and dogs, leading Queen Elizabeth II to declare in 2022 it was her "sincerest wish" for Camilla to become Queen Consort upon Charles's assumption to the throne.
Since embracing her role, the Queen Consort has taken a significant role in Royal duties, particularly since King Charles' diagnosis with cancer. Compounding the family's troubles, Kate Middleton has also revealed she's been diagnosed with cancer, leading Prince William to focus more on his spouse and their trio of kids, chalks up the Express, reports Aberdeen Live .
Following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's decision to step back from Royal duties in January 2022, and Princess Anne's hospitalization after a horse-riding accident in June, Queen Camilla has been commended for her increased Royal responsibilities. Ms Rose observed that she has embraced these duties with youthful vigor and a sunny disposition.
In a piece for the Daily Mail, Ms Rose dubbed Camilla as 'the lady boss', a moniker bestowed by some staff at Clarence House. A pal of Camilla's was quoted saying that she has triumphed 'just by being herself'.
They further noted that Camilla is not a person who can be easily swayed, nor is she given to dramatic tantrums. Ms Rose also underscored the relief provided by Camilla's cool and collected manner amidst the turmoil involving Harry and Meghan and the scandal concerning Prince Andrew.
The Marchioness of Lansdowne praised Camilla's resilience and strong sense of duty in a chat with The Sunday Times, stating that these traits have stood her in good stead.
Tina Brown, in her book The Palace Papers, proposed that if Camilla had a family motto, it would be 'thou shalt not whine'.
On Saturday, September 28, Camilla was in attendance at Holyrood as Charles addressed MSPs during a ceremony commemorating the Scottish Parliament's 25th anniversary. He discussed the common challenges we face due to the perilous shifts in our planet's climate and the severe reduction of its biodiversity.
The King, clad in a kilt, shared his hopeful outlook at the gathering, commenting that he expects this to mark "the beginning of the next chapter". His words came as part of a speech where he reminisced about Scotland being a "uniquely special place" for the Royal family.
