Liam Neeson's Netflix Western "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs" , created by the famous Coen Brothers, has bagged an impressive accuracy rating from an Old West expert. The historian, a real-life cowboy named Michael Grauer, went into detail about the authenticity of the film during an interview with Insider.

He scored a scene from "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs" out of 10 for historical veracity , declaring, "I'd call it a seven." He said: "They're poking fun - gentle fun, to be sure - at the singing cowboy films of the 30s and 40s."

Grauer mentioned the saloon segments particularly shone with realism, especially concerning the depiction of the "criminal element".

He noted: "You did have saloon fights, that part is true, and in some cases someone might pull out a concealed weapon. Sometimes. Most of the time it was with fists, and they didn't last that long. You didn't have the great scenes like you see where everyone is punching everybody else, punching furniture and so on. It was usually just a couple of people."

In one of its six narratives, Liam Neeson stars as Impressario, a ruthless promoter in the show business, exhibiting his acting prowess which earned him critical acclaim following the movie's debut.

Grauer also praised Tim Blake Nelson, who portrayed the stylish cowboy Buster Scruggs, as "hysterical" saying that "nobody dressed like that."

The episodes varied in terms of accuracy and tone, with the first two generally considered comedic and the others darker. The Ballad of Buster Scruggs held its own alongside classic westerns like The Searchers, which scored a 2, and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, which received a 4.

But fair warning about the Tim Blake Nelson segment: Its GRAPHIC VIOLENCE will not be viewed as "hilarious", or acceptable, to more sensitive viewers. Just because he wears that silly white hat and outfit, it doesn't mean he fights a good clean fight!
