Angel Reese's Chicago Sky stance after Teresa Weatherspoon's exit

Chicago Sky general manager Jeff Pagliocca insisted that the relationship with Angel Reese is in a "good spot" despite the rookie's dismayed response to Teresa Weatherspoon's dismissal .

After a promising start to the 2024 WNBA season, positioning themselves for a postseason spot, the Sky's performance plummeted down the stretch - especially following Reese's season-ending wrist injury. Chicago ultimately concluded with a 13-27 record, four games worse than the previous season.

With the season concluded, the Sky's front office opted for a change, terminating Weatherspoon's contract. Reese expressed her devastation, having shared a strong, positive bond with Weatherspoon .

"I'm heartbroken," Reese wrote in a candid, lengthy social media post. "I'm literally lost for words knowing what this woman meant to me in such a pivotal point in my life. She was the only person that believed in me. The one that trusted me. Many don't even know what it's like to be a Black women in sports when nobody believes in you."

"You had a tough job. All the crazy circumstances that we went through this year and when your back was against the wall, you always believed. I came to Chicago because of YOU."

"You were an unsung hero in my life. We built a relationship in a short amount of time that will last forever. I'll never question God why he brings people in my life and takes them away from me in the capacity that I need them but I've always believed everyone is in your life for a reason and a season. You were the best reason and season. You didn't deserve this but I can't thank you enough. I love you Tspoon. @Finisher_11."

Despite her apparent dissatisfaction with the decision, there's been speculation about Reese's happiness in Chicago. However, Pagliocca assured reporters on Wednesday: "The franchise's relationship with Angel (Reese) is in a good spot."

Reese, who recently announced that her injured wrist cast was removed earlier this week, had an impressive debut season. The 22 year old was a strong contender for the WNBA Rookie of the Year award alongside Caitlin Clark before her injury, ending her rookie season with an average of 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds.

Recently, Reese started her own podcast, "Unapologetically Angel", releasing new episodes weekly. During one episode, while discussing her rivalry with Clark, Reese hinted that they might end up playing for the same team in the future.

"[Basketball] is a game that we do both love, but there is no hate [between myself and Clark," Reese stated. "We're going to play on the same team one day, I'm sure. We're going to definitely play on the same team one day, maybe 2028."
