Irish names are a common sight globally , but there are some rare gems that you've likely never come across . Names such as Conor, Riley, and Murphy are frequently seen in places like the US.

However, there are also Irish monikers that are often heard on the Emerald Isle but rarely in the US . Examples include Tadhg, Caoimhe, and Cillian.

Yet, there exist Irish names that are seldom heard anywhere . This doesn't detract from their beauty; they simply haven't reached the popularity levels of other names.

    Liadan

    Pronunciation: lee-ah-dan.

Liadan is an incredibly rare Irish name for girls. There's probably a reason it's not commonly chosen for newborn girls.

Liadan translates to 'grey lady'. It's certainly not a description we'd typically associate with a newborn girl.

    Eiriu

    Pronunciation: air-roo.

Eiru is a choice for parents who hold their Irish heritage dear. Eiriu is the origin of the Irish name for Ireland, Eire.

    Bard

    Pronunciation: bard.

Bard is a concise and straightforward Irish name. Despite its simplicity in pronunciation, it hasn't quite soared in popularity.

    Iseult

    Pronunciation: eez-ult.

Iseult is undoubtedly one of the rarest Irish names out there, and one we're confident you've never encountered before. Iseult means 'fair-skinned' or 'ice ruler', making it an ideal choice for a winter-born baby girl.

    Faolan

    Pronunciation: fway-lawn.

Faolan, a unique moniker for boys, hails from the Irish language. The name Faolan translates to 'little wolf', drawing parallels with another Irish name, Oisin.

    Realtin

    Pronunciation: rail-teen.

Realtin is a beautiful name for girls, translating to 'little star'. It's a name that carries a charming meaning and yet remains uncommon.

    Cael

    Pronunciation: kay-l.

Cael is an Irish boy's name signifying 'slender'. This draws it close to the more prevalent Irish boy's name, Caoimhin.
