Why drag queen who filled-in for Chappell Roan was ‘so nervous’ after the artist left fans devastated with last minute swap

Fans on social media posted about their excitement to go see Chappell Roan at the All Things Go Music festival in September, some even detailing the measures they took to be able to go, like long trips and low bank accounts.

Then, a day before the NYC show, the artist took to her Instagram story to announce that she was dropping out of the festival to prioritize her mental health.

It’s safe to say, people were crushed.

Popular TikTok user Kat Wellington posted a video explaining that she bought a plane ticket from LA to the east coast, paid $400 dollars for a VIP ticket, and paid $300 for a hotel to “only see her”.

Instead of Chappell Roan’s set, the festival posted on their Instagram that there was a new plan for the 5:35 pm slot, titled " Queens of the Dancefloor", an ATG Drag Party".

Reese Havoc, and six other drag queens, partied on stage instead of the Hot To Go superstar. Havoc spoke exclusively to The Irish Star about the performance.

“We were honestly so nervous because we knew how anticipated it was for her to perform, so we were nervous, but the minute they called our names out there one by one we could feel the love from so many people,” She said.

Once on stage, Havoc said that the crowd showed nothing but love.

“It was cool to see so many people get so excited about local drag,” Havoc explained. “To be on such a big stage, that was the biggest stage anyone has been on, and the largest amount of people anyone has ever performed for, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity that we hope isn't just once in a lifetime!”

“We really got to do all the songs, not just the hits, the deeper cut songs that the audience knew every word too as well,” she added.

On stage, watching the crowd, Havoc said there was a specific moment she won’t ever forget.

“When we did hot to go, literally every single person in the crowd was doing the hot to go dance,” she explained. “Just seeing that visual from the stage that many people all in unison really moved me. I never imagined drag would bring me to that opportunity.”
