Customers who have enjoyed Breyers ice cream over the last eight years, may be eligible for a big payout from the company , as they face a $8.85 million lawsuit.

Breyers was founded in Philadelphia , in 1866 and has become one of the largest ice cream brands in the US producing over a million gallons a year. However, the popular brand is paying out a nearly $9 million settlement as part of a class-action lawsuit filed against Conopco, Inc., and Unilever, Inc., - the advertiser and parent company of Breyers.

The lawsuit claims that Breyers’ offered misleading labeling on their “Natural Vanilla ice cream.” It claims that the packaging gave consumers the impression that the dessert contained vanilla flavor derived only from the vanilla plant.

The lawsuit alleges that the ice cream contained non-vanilla plant vanilla flavors . The defendants deny these claims, but have agreed to the $8.85 million payout. Those eligible for a piece of the massive sum, will have purchased Breyers Natural Vanilla ice cream in any size between April 21, 2016 and Aug. 14, 2024.

Those interested do not need proof of purchase to receive compensation, though it will affect the sum they receive. Those without proof will only receive a maximum of $8, or $1 per item purchased.

However, for those who can provide proof of purchase, there is no limit to the amount you can receive. You will be eligible for $1 back on each tub of Breyers’ vanilla you purchased over the aforementioned time span.

Those interested will need to file a claim by February 19, 2025, to be eligible for cash payments. There is a limit of one claim per household.
