Prince Harry says William and Kate's 'main issue' with Meghan was over 'American tradition'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reminisced on their sixth year together as a married couple this month, a union overshadowed by an ongoing row with the Prince and Princess of Wales at its very heart.

The Duke candidly revealed bitter details in his 2023 explosive book, 'Spare', where he reflected on the frayed bonds among what was once dubbed the 'Fab Four'. Within the pages, Harry expressed disappointment over William and Kate's failure to connect with Meghan as he had wished, prompting the two couples to confront their issues.

He highlighted that one particular source of conflict arose from William and Kate altering the seating arrangement at his wedding.

In a revelatory snippe t, Harry recounts a confrontation at Kensington Palace, two months post-wedding, noting: "For our part, we chipped in that we weren't too pleased when Willy and Kate switched place cards and changed seats at our wedding.

"We'd followed the American tradition, placing couples next to each other, but Willy and Kate didn't like that tradition, so their table was the only one where spouses were apart."

Settling the score, he wrote: "They insisted it wasn't them, it was someone else. And they said we'd done the same thing at Pippa's wedding. We hadn't. Much as we'd wanted to. We'd been separated by a huge flower arrangement between us, and though we'd desperately wanted to sit together, we hadn't done a thing about it. None of this airing of grievances was doing us any good, I felt. We weren't getting anywhere," reports the Mirror .

Tensions had been simmering for ages between the two couples. In his book, Harry attempts to clarify the widely reported spat over bridesmaid dresses involving Meghan and Kate. Reports initially claimed that an argument between the bride-to-be and her soon-to-be sister-in-law left Kate in tears. However, during their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, Meghan insisted it was she who ended up crying.

Harry recounts that the pre-wedding disagreements escalated when discussing rehearsal details, and Kate overlooked a minor detail of the wedding arrangements. Meghan implied the oversight was due to Kate having "baby brain", as she had just given birth to Prince Louis on April 23, 2018, a mere 28 days before Harry and Meghan's nuptials at Windsor Castle.

Harry noted that this remark upset Kate. Then, a mere four days prior to the big day, Kate's daughter, Princess Charlotte, tried on her bridesmaids' dress only to find it much too large. Harry alleges that Kate wanted the dress completely redone, but Meghan believed her tailor could simply adjust it.

Following the dispute about the dress, Harry came home to discover Meghan in tears on the floor. He also mentioned that Kate came by the next day bearing flowers and a card to say sorry, an act of contrition Meghan herself spoke of during the Oprah interview.

A meeting was arranged at Kensington Palace in an attempt to clear the air, following Meghan and Harry's honeymoon. It is claimed that Kate took issue with Meghan's "baby brain" remark, stating, "You talked about my hormones. We are not close enough for you to talk about my hormones."

Harry recounts that his wife appeared perplexed by Kate's reaction, explaining that she often spoke in such a manner with her friends. The situation escalated, with William allegedly pointing at Meghan, labeling her 'rude', and asserting that her behavior was unacceptable in Britain.

Meghan retorted, telling William to "take your finger out of my face", according to Harry's recollection.
