Emily Blunt calls Oppenheimer co-star Cillian Murphy the 'worst celebrity in the world'

Six months ago, Emily Blunt sat down with 60 minutes- with whom Donald Trump just pulled out of an interview - and told the TV show that Cillian Murphy is the “worst celebrity in the world.”

Award winning 60 Minute host Scott Pelley sat down with Emily Blunt in March to discuss her relationship with Oppenheimer co-star Cillian Murphy- who described being “broken” and “worn out” after Oppenheimer.

“You describe him as “shy”, not able to handle a compliment,” said Pelley. “Does he know how good he is?” Pelley asked.

“No, I don’t think so. I don’t know t if any of the great actors say that about themselves. I feel he is always in search, looking ahead, looking off to the horizon. He’s looking at ‘What else can I do? How far can I push it?” Blunt responded.

“I think it would be so painful for him to acknowledge how good he is,” Blunt added.

Blunt then goes on to call him “the worst celebrity in the world”, as a joke. "He’s the best actor in the world and the worst celebrity in the world,” said Blunt.

Confused, Pelley asked Blunt to clarify the heavy statement she just made. "He’s my favorite actor I've ever worked with,” she replied. “Because he is unparalleled in what he can do and how he pulls you in.”

Blunt goes on to describe Murphy’s talent as “the kidnap”. "The whole room crackles with a sort of life force when you work with him,” she explained. “It’s wonderful.”

Asked about Murphy’s specific role as J. Robert Oppenheimer in Oppenheimer, for which he won an academy award, Pelley asked Blunt if he stays in the character all day long or turns it on and off.

Blunt, who played Kitty Oppenheimer, his wife in the film, laughed and responded by saying he turns it on and off because “that’s just how good he is”.

“I have pictures in our old prosthetic makeup and we’re literally crying with laughter,” Blunt said.

She continued on to say how she and Murphy would joke off set, even coming up with an alter ego for old oppenheimer where he wore aviator shades.
