Liam Neeson's most overlooked action flick has become a major success on Netflix

One of Liam Neeson's lesser-noticed recent action flicks is making a splash with Netflix viewers. The 2019 release, Cold Pursuit , features Neeson alongside Jurassic Park's Laura Dern.

A remake of the Norwegian film from 2014, In Order of Disappearance, it stars the Irishman as a revenge-seeking snowplow operator whose son is killed by drug traffickers.

The cast includes Tom Bateman, Tom Jackson, Emmy Rossum, Domenick Lombardozzi, Julia Jones, and John Doman. Mixed reactions met its release in cinemas four years back, with a current Rotten Tomatoes score sitting at 68 per cent.

Yet most critiques latched onto the thriller starring Neeson for its broadly positive take. One critic remarked: "It nails its tone as an offbeat black comedy, managing to balance the macabre and the silly." Another put forward: "Cold Pursuit's streaks of brutal cold humor have more bite than your average dark-comedy."

In the window of October 23 to October 29, viewers dedicated 13.2 million hours to Cold Pursuit. It hit 6.7 million views and landed in the global top ten.

The movie's newfound fame is unexpected since it went fairly unnoticed at launch. A modest $10.8m was bagged at its opening weekend and ended up being one of Neeson's poorer performing openings at the box office.

Cold Pursuit isn't the only Liam Neeson action film to gain popularity on Netflix years after its cinema release. Viewers have recently rediscovered 2014's Non-Stop, which features Neeson alongside Julianne Moore, Michelle Dockery, and Lupita Nyong'o.

Non-Stop sees Neeson in the role of a former NYPD officer and US Air Marshall who turns to drink while grieving his daughter's premature death. He is compelled to spring back into action when the flight he is on is hijacked.
