Gosling, who was originally tapped to play Jack Salmon, the father to Ronan's Susie Salmon, left due to differing creative ideas. While on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the leading lady shared her affection: "I just loved Ryan. And his dog, George."

She confessed feeling down about Gosling not being part of the film , revealing: "I was just sad that he wasn't gonna be around."

Ronan, maintaining a bright outlook, mentioned, "I have spoken to both now, and I complete - it happens, you know what I mean? It's not personal, necessarily; it's just sometimes you're not on the same page."

Mark Wahlberg eventually took on the role of Jack Salmon, a casting decision Ronan supports given Wahlberg's firsthand experience as a parent, sharing, "Mark was able to step in, and he was a father."

She continued by acknowledging Wahlbergs own parenting background: "He was a father to, like, I don't know, three kids? He probably had an experience of that that Ryan felt he didn't."

However, later down the line, Saoirse Ronan teamed up with Gosling in his directorial venture Lost River, an experience she fondly terms as "great". Reflecting on working together again, she said: "Ryan was like 27. He was young. It was great then to work with him later."

Her esteem for Gosling is clear as she reflects, "He's just, like, the same. He doesn't change."

The film Lost River featured an array of stars including Christina Hendricks, Matt Smith, Eva Mendes, and Barbara Steele, spinning a story about a mother ensnared in a dark underworld.

Following up on her previous disclosures, Saoirse recounted how she tried out for Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter during a chat with Jimmy Kimmel. On his show, Jimmy probed whether there were any roles she laments missing out on or wishes she hadn't passed up to this day.

Saoirse admitted that there are parts she has declined and subsequently regretted once she saw the finished movie.

She revealed that she missed out on playing Luna Lovegood. Expanding on the audition experience, Saoirse shared: "I had gone up for Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter years ago, because it was the Irish character... I knew I wasn't going to get it because I was too young but I got to read out a scene that was going to be in Harry Potter and it was the coolest thing ever."
