How Meghan Markle's view on Royal titles for her children changed after key family conversations

By Jasmine Carey & Rudi Kinsella,

Meghan Markle reportedly expressed a desire for her children to retain their official Royal titles following discussions with two senior members of the Royal Family .

Despite the Duchess and her husband, Prince Harry, choosing to step back from the Royal Family in 2020 and move to California , it appears they did not wish to sever all connections with the Palace.

This was evident in 2023 when Meghan and Harry opted for their children , Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three, to take on Royal titles, despite Meghan and Harry no longer being able to use HRH titles.

The couple, still known as The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are thought to have made this decision after conversations with close relatives Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, Harry's cousins.

This is in contrast to their explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, where Meghan stated she had no "attachment" to the "grandeur" of Royal life.

However, a Royal expert has now suggested that the couple changed their stance and wished to maintain their children's Royal titles for very specific reasons.

OK reports that Neil Sean stated: "Harry and Meghan are very, very keen to cling onto those royal titles. After much deliberation, Meghan decided that the titles would be a good thing, not just for her but for both her children too."

"Meghan become very friendly with senior members of the monarchy, predominately Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice."

"After this, Meghan realised how useful a title can be, particularly when you want to move in the correct circles. That is the reason why they want to clutch hold of titles."

Even with Archie and Lilibet holding these titles, they're still enjoying a normal childhood out in California, a world away from their father's British roots.

King Charles is seemingly eager to bond with his American grandkids, but the miles between have proven a significant stumbling block, especially with Meghan seeming reluctant to bring the kids over to Britain anytime soon.

Prince Harry popped over to Blighty recently for a commitment but didn't meet up with any Royal relatives despite being chatty with his dad.

While Harry was visiting his old stomping grounds, Meghan hung back at their Montecito pad, minding the young ones.
