The "most handsome men in the world" have been named - and an Irish star has ranked highly above major Hollywood A-listers .

A UK-based plastic surgeon has listed the world's most handsome men using an ancient Greek formula . Dr Julian De Silva utilized the Greek Golden Ratio of Beauty to compile his list of top 10 heartthrobs.

Taking third place in the handsomeness stakes is Gladiator II star Paul Mescal . So, who claimed the top spot? Aaron Taylor-Johnson scoring an impressive 93.04 per cent, taking the title over other James Bond actors .

"Aaron was the clear winner when all elements of the face were measured for physical perfection ," Dr De Silva told the Daily Mail. "His 93.04 per cent score would easily make him the most handsome James Bond in history if he does land the role as expected. Aaron was the clear winner when all elements of the face were measured for physical perfection . He is well ahead of all the James Bond actors - Sean Connery in second place with 89.2 per cent, Roger Moore third on 88.8 per cent and Daniel Craig trailing last - behind George Lazenby - on 84.2 per cent."

Aaron Taylor-Johnson's rugged good looks earned him the top spot on the list of most handsome faces , with a remarkable 99.2 per cent score on the golden ratio scale. His facial features were highly praised, particularly the proportions of his nose, which achieved an impressive 98.8 per cent - deemed "near perfect".

Not all his features scored highly. His eye spacing, nose-to-lip gap, and lips fell short of the 90 per cent mark . Close behind Aaron in the rankings is Emily In Paris heartthrob Lucien Laviscount, who secured second place with an overall score of 92.41 per cent.

His face shape, particularly its length and width, as well as his "beautifully shaped lips" , garnered high praise.

Robert Pattinson and Jack Lowden - Saoirse Ronan's husband - claimed fourth and fifth spots respectively. Hollywood legend George Clooney, the oldest on the list, came in sixth. Dr De Silva commended his timeless appeal.

"George Clooney is easily the oldest star on the list but he remains a stunningly attractive man with classical features in great proportion," Dr De Silva noted. Despite some signs of ageing, such as volume loss and eye sagging, securing a top ten spot at 63 is a testament to his enduring "natural good looks", according to Dr De Silva.

While Dr De Silva's list is light-hearted, his cutting-edge computer mapping technology plays a vital role in his surgical planning for clients. The surgeon's full list is as follows:.

    1. Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

    2. Lucien Laviscount.

    3. Paul Mescal.

    4. Robert Pattinson.

    5. Jack Lowden.

    6. George Clooney.

    7. Nicholas Hoult.

    8. Charles Melton.

    9. Idris Elba.

    10. Shah Rukh Khan.

The Golden Ratio is an ancient mathematical formula devised by the Greeks to determine facial attractiveness . If your face closely aligns with the number 1.618 (Phi), then you're considered quite the stunner.

This ratio features in Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man, from his quest for the ultimate hunk blueprint. De Silva, who works at the Centre for Advanced Facial Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery, has now applied this formula to the celebs .
