Mean Girls scene was cut at last-minute for being too inappropriate

Mean Girls has firmly established itself as one of the most memorable teen films ever made, but it could have been more iconic if this raunchy scene was included .

The film, which follows the life of Cady Heron, a home-schooled teenager who finds herself navigating the world of public high school, captivated millions when it premiered in 2004. With a star-studded cast including Lindsay Lohan , Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried and Amy Poehler, the film was a box office hit .

Based on the parenting book Queen Bees and Wannabes, the film raked in an impressive $130.1million at the box office, all on a budget of just $18million. The film also propelled Lindsay to new heights in her career, helping her shed her child star image .

However, what many fans may not realise is that several of the film's risque scenes had to be modified or cut entirely to appease censors. While the film is filled with innuendo and cheeky moments, some scenes were deemed too explicit by film executives and had to be altered.

One scene that was significantly affected was when Cady walks in on fellow 'Plastic' Gretchen making out with boyfriend Jason at a house party. In the memorable scene, the young high-schooler interrupts the couple's passionate kissing, but the original plan was for something much more explicit.

In the original version of the scene, Cady was meant to catch Gretchen and Jason in a far more compromising position. This part was eventually removed from the movie, leading to a script alteration and the birth of the now-famous "made out with a hot dog" line, which was originally scripted as "masturbated with a hot dog".

The film's censors also had issues with another infamous quote, deeming it too risque for a teen flick. The contentious line involved a student admitting: "I can't help it if I have a heavy flow with a wide-sit vagina."

Film board chiefs insisted the line be axed, but the creative team pushed back, highlighting cruder comments in Anchorman, a comedy of the same era. Years later, Director Mark Waters recounted to Vulture magazine how they accused the censors of sexism.

"We told them, 'You're only saying this because it's a girl, and she's talking about a part of her anatomy'," Mark revealed. "There's no sexual context whatsoever, and to say this is restrictive to an audience of girls is demeaning to all women."

The censors ultimately relented on their stance regarding the line, which became one of the most memorable in the film. Following its release, the movie garnered several accolades at the Teen Choice Awards and the MTV Movie Awards in 2004 and 2005.
