Cillian Murphy breaks down Peaky Blinders' most iconic scene

Cillian Murphy has broken down Peaky Blinders' most iconic scenes during an interview that gives fans of the hit show a sneak peek into the mind of the Irish actor - and the troubled Birmingham gangster he plays, Tommy Shelby.

Many iconic moments, lines, and looks have emerged from Steven Knight's creation, which is currently being turned into a film starring Murphy alongside Barry Keoghan and Dune's Rebecca Ferguson among other returning stars.

Speaking on Happy Sad Confused with Josh Horowitz, a pop culture podcast, back in February, the Cork native went into detail about two of the series' standout scenes , dubbed 'The Exchange' and and 'No F***ing Fighting'.

Horowitz brings up the scene when Annabelle Wallace, who plays Grace, the Irish barmaid and uncover agent who goes on to marry Tommy , sings the hard man a sad Celtic ballad on top of a barstool.

Before she breaks into song, she warns Tommy, "I'll break your heart," to which Tommy replies, "Already broken."

Cillian said: "It's great writing and really well directed and Annabelle was great in it. It was a good scene. I remember the director cut that scene together and showed it to us and said, 'I think we've got something special here'."

Asked if that was a common occurrence, Cillian replied: " Generally the default thing is, 'I could have done that better' or 'I could've nailed that more,' or 'there's other stuff we should've explored'. That's always the way.

"I feel as if, you finish a scene and you're all high fiving... [it's a weird vibe]".

Horowitz brings up another scene in season 2 where Tommy thinks he's "met his maker". Tommy is apparently being led to his execution, but instead his proposed killers shoot dead two soldiers beside him , and Tommy walks free.

Asked if he can remember how he processed that moment, Cillian explained: "I was just in it... normal people would be relieved not to be dead. I think he [Tommy] was wishing that he was dead , so that was the distinction."

On a more comical note, the scene where Tommy gathers his wedding party in the back room of the pub before he marries Grace to warn them there's one simple rule - "no fighting" - is discussed.

The scene has been made into an internet meme, something which Cillian is not too familiar with.

"I remember there was a stage direction in that scene and it said 'this is the angriest we've ever seen Tommy Shelby '. It gives you license to go, let's go for it... it was funny but he [Tommy] also meant it...

"My kids show me it [the meme]. It gets used for every out of context scenario. I think it's a great reflection on the show - that the writing and the direction lands like that ."
