One thing we love is our pets . Walmart says they love them too, but for different reasons, in a statement that has been praised online.

To appreciate the success their furry friends caused, Walmart- which recently closed 250 stores in Florida - also announced that it will be extending its pet services across the country.

In a statement released by Walmart this week, the company announced that the industry household pets created has been very successful.

“The pet category continues to be one of the most dynamic in retail,” the statement started off. “With a projected annual spending growth of 7 per cent by 2030 and household expenses expected to reach $1,445 per pet by 2026,” Walmart said in a news release.

“Veterinary services are now the second largest pet spending category after consumables and are expected to see continued growth as pet owners prioritize their pets’ wellbeing,” Walmart added.

After the success of a pilot Walmart Pet Services in Dallas, Georgia, the company announced it will be expanding to five other cities in the next month or so.

Plans include “Widening access to affordable in-person and virtual veterinary care, pet prescription delivery, grooming services, pet food and supplies, all in one convenient experience for pet owners.”

The company will also be launching its Walmart+benefit with Pawp on October 18, offering members of a subscription free round-the-access to Pawp’s veterinary team.

Research by PYMNS Intelligence revealed that even when people are looking to cut back, they are hesitant when it comes to cutting back on their pets.

The Consumer Inflation Sentiment Report : Consumers Cut Back by Trading Down surveyed over 2,000 American consumers and concluded that people are more likely to prioritize pet products when looking to cut back.

The report revealed that due to inflation, 47% of consumers decided to buy from a cheaper merchant for at least one grocery item, while only 19 per cent of grocery shoppers said they used cheaper alternatives for pet food and supplies.
