Aaron Rodgers throws NY Jets teammate under the bus after late interception in Buffalo Bills loss

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers pointed the finger at wide receiver Mike Williams for a critical fourth-quarter interception, claiming Williams botched the play.

With the Jets trailing by three and endeavouring to surge forward against the Buffalo Bills, Rodgers launched a downfield pass targeting Williams . The 30-year-old receiver altered his run mid-air, which gave corner Taron Johnson the chance to intercept.

The pick turned out to be decisive as the Bills subsequently secured their victory while Rodgers was visibly irate on the sideline right after the incident.

Rodgers, when quizzed about his view during that fateful pass, didn't mince his words - he insisted Williams should have executed a go-route but instead veered off into an in-breaking pattern.

Speaking to the media, Rodgers explained: "We [were supposed to have] two verticals. Allen's [Lazard] down the seam, Mike's [Williams] down the red line [sideline go-route].", reports the Mirror US .

He detailed further: "I'm looking at Allen, he puts his hand up, three guys go with him. So, I'm throwing a no-look to the red line. When I peek my eyes back there [Williams] is running an in-breaker. It's gotta be down the red line."

Rodgers emphasised that Williams was expected to stick with the go-route and implied that the receiver's last-minute route change led to the interception.

A former first-round pick and go-to receiver with the Chargers, Williams' stint with the Jets hasn't quite lived up to expectations - appearing to be the fourth or fifth choice option for Rodgers throughout the season so far. Trade talks have also seen Williams' name surface, as the Jets' interest in Davante Adams remains.

It was another disheartening defeat for the Jets, who now sit at a 2-4 record and are in dire need of securing some victories in the upcoming weeks.

However, there were signs of improvement from the team both offensively and defensively after parting ways with former head coach Robert Saleh. Rodgers' offense clocked over 400 yards while the defense restricted Josh Allen to a mere 18 rushing yards on nine attempts - challenging the quarterback to outplay the team with his arm, which he managed to do with some superb throws to Dalton Kincaid and rookie running back Ray Davis.
