Gypsy Rose Blanchard 'adjustment' advice for Menendez Brothers if they gain prison release

    By Eleanor Tolbert,

Gypsy Rose Blanchard can understand the position of the Menendez Brothers , and she’s giving them some advice.

The 33-year-old was released from prison in December 2023 after serving eight years for second-degree murder. In 2015, she and then boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn devised a plan to kill her mother Dee Dee Blanchard as a means for Gypsy to escape her control.

Dee Dee suffered from Factitious Disorder Imposed on Another. The mental illness caused her to force medicines and surgeries on Gypsy , despite the fact that in reality, she was perfectly healthy. Dee Dee forced Gypsy to shave her head, use a wheelchair and even eat through a feeding tube.

Because of the control she went through, Gypsy can now sympathize with Erik and Lyle Menendez. The boys killed their parents, Jose and Kitty, in 1989 after they claimed to have suffered sexual abuse from their father for years.

Their story has risen to popularity again with Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, as well as a new documentary titled The Menendez Brothers. The resurgence of their story has brought new evidence to light, making the Los Angeles County District Attorney reconsider the case.

Gypsy shared some insights on what it’s like to reenter the world after committing a highly publicized crime.

She told TMZ: “It’s very difficult to come out to a world that has changed so much even in the time that I spent [in prison] … I would say take your time, you know, adjust properly.

“And get therapy because you need it in this kind of world [and] day and age.”

While she told the outlet she doesn’t know much about the Menendez case, she said she’s supportive of anyone who has suffered abuse at the hands of their parents.

“I’m an advocate for abuse victims in general and I’m all about prison reform so … if the case is being reviewed, then hopefully something can be done. Abuse victims need to be advocated for more.”

Kim Kardashian, who has been an advocate for victims of wrongful imprisonment, has taken the side of the Menendez brothers. She wrote in an Oct. 3 essay for NBC News that when the boys were arrested, there was “no chance of a fair trial” as there was “limited resources for victims of sexual abuse, particularly for boys.”

The reality star was also a supporter of Gypsy. She said that if Kardashian is on the brothers’ side, that is good news for them.

“Kim is a wise woman. She makes good decisions in her prison reform era,” Gypsy said.
