The four-time MVP was adamant that the interception happened because Williams made a mistake. Rodgers attempted a deep pass to outside receiver Williams, who had to adjust mid-air, resulting in cornerback Taron Johnson intercepting the ball, leading to a game-defining moment.
As the Bills secured their victory, Rodgers was visibly upset on the sidelines right after the incident. Post-game, the 40-year-old quarterback explained the situation to journalists: "We [were supposed to have] two verticals. Allen's [Lazard] down the seam, Mike's [Williams] down the red line [sideline go-route]," reports the Mirror US .
"I'm looking at Allen, he puts his hand up, three guys go with him. So, I'm throwing a no-look to the red line. When I peek my eyes back there [Williams] is running an in-breaker. It's gotta be down the red line."
Rodgers essentially pointed the finger at Williams, who was supposed to run a go-route but instead forced the quarterback to change his throw late in the motion, resulting in the interception. This mistake by Williams may have been the last straw as the Jets have since finalized a blockbuster trade for Adams - a familiar and favorite target of Rodgers.
Adams has been rumored to be leaving the Las Vegas Raiders for a while now, with speculation increasing after he sustained a hamstring injury. On Tuesday, the Jets secured the All-Pro in exchange for a conditional third-round pick that could become a second-rounder.
Adams is a three-time All-Pro and two-time receiving touchdowns leader, making him one of the top offensive weapons in football. Despite trade rumours linking him to the Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints, and Bills, the Jets made their move and Adams joined the likes of Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, and Williams in the receiver room.
The Jets now boast a formidable receiving corps on paper. Wilson is the franchise's star receiver while Lazard - another ex-Green Bay Packers receiver who had a connection with Rodgers - has been on fire, scoring five touchdowns in six weeks this season including an unforgettable Hail Mary against the Bills.
