The Kansas City Chiefs tight end has even thrown the first pitch at a Guardians game last July, although his throw was so off-target it caused Cleveland player Shane Bieber to dodge out of the way, reports the Mirror US .
Jordan Shusterman from Yahoo pointed out that the NFL star has shown loyalty to both New York and Cleveland. Back in 2010, he tweeted "and my #Yankees lost...smh hats off to the #rangers though, but I'm hurttin' tonight! ! ! " following New York's playoff defeat.
In 2011, he praised Cleveland ace Justin Masterson on X, tweeting: "Master just might be the next Cy Young winner for the #Tribe... hopefully, we don't trade him away like the last two we had..." (referring to the trades of Cliff Lee and C. C. Sabathia).
When asked in June whether he would support the Guardians or the local Kansas City Royals if they were to meet in the American League playoffs, Kelce said, "I've been to more playoff Cleveland Guardian games; those games are unbelievably electric.
"Back in 2015, when the Royals won (the World Series), those games were every bit as electric. My hometown team, though, I'm still a huge Guards fan."
Kelce's quarterback Patrick Mahomes has shown great affection for the Kansas City Royals. He expressed his support for the team through a tweet during the 2024 MLB postseason.
Discussing his NFL draft hopes in January of 2024, Kelce revealed his initial desire to join the Cleveland Browns: "I think I cried in [former Browns coach Rob] Chudzinski's face when I was getting drafted, to like, 'Please let me ******* play for Cleveland.
"It was like one of my dreams to play for the Browns," he added. "Being a sports fan in Cleveland, you can't not dream about playing for all three of the Cleveland sports teams, let alone the Browns."
He remembered his emotions ahead of the NFL draft: "[Chudzinski] and coach Jon Embree, tight end coach down in Miami right now. I was crying in front of both, which is probably why they didn't draft me. 'This dude is way too soft. He's a mess right now.'".
The Yankees secured a solid win thanks to Soto's home run and six commanding innings from Carlos Rodon, ending with a 5-2 victory. The series will continue at Yankee Stadium for Game 2 on Tuesday night.
