Weeds can sprout up in the most unlikely of places, from graveled areas to the gaps between patio slabs, not just where other plants are growing.

While chemical-based weed killers are often the go-to solution, many people prefer to avoid them . An alternative is to manually pull out the weeds, but this can be a laborious and tiring task.

Opting for a chemical-free approach may take a bit longer to produce results, but it ensures a safe environment for people, pets, and local wildlife. Gardening experts at Eco Gardener have shared some natural methods , including one that claims to make weeds "shrivel and die in a day," reports the Express .

According to the gardeners, the acidic properties in lemon juice make it a "natural enemy of weeds", with the ability to kill them off effectively. They explained: "Lemon juice kills weeds so effectively that it's considered to work as the best natural weed killer there is.

"The citric acid in lemon juice dries out weed foliage until the weeds shrivel up and die in just a matter of a day."

To try this method, gardeners can use either freshly squeezed lemon juice or a bottled lemon juice drink, pouring it directly onto the affected areas. However, be cautious not to spray or pour the juice on nearby plants and crops.

For an even more potent solution, mix in some garlic juice with the lemon juice. Garlic is "incredibly beneficial" to the garden, helping to "deter pests, prevents the spread of diseases, and improve the health of your outdoor space."

To employ garlic as a weed killer, whizz up three cloves with a splash of water in the blender until smooth. After straining, decant the garlic essence into a spray bottle.

For an "extra sticky" concoction, whisk in one or two tablespoons of molasses. This ensures the solution will "adhere to the weeds and won't be washed away easily."
