Liam Payne opened up about his mental health struggles before his death, sharing a heartfelt moment with fans last year.

The ex-One Direction member confessed to going off the rails and took the necessary step of checking into a US rehab facility to aid his journey back to sobriety.

Liam acknowledged that he failed to "recognize" himself amid difficulties following One Direction's split in 2016.

He disclosed being diagnosed with several conditions and spoke of the challenge to stay sober during his "manic moments".

In an Instagram video, Liam expressed: "So, I mean, I've filmed a bunch of these over time and deleted them but I don't know if this is the right time..", reports the Express US .

He added, "I mentioned I've been diagnosed with a couple of conditions. Not to go too much into detail, but one of them that I have, basically, there are a lot of manic things in my life which you guys saw."

"But, the other side of it, that kind of feels like when I would lose my sobriety, in these moments that I was super low. I kind of felt like that today."

Liam also mentioned that he can now recognize when he's not feeling well.

Continuing, he said: "Luckily, I've got some amazing people around me that look after me but I'm sure they can see it in me too that I'm just not really here."

"I just wanted to put this out here anyway, because I know there are probably a few people who have the same thing, maybe you don't even know it sometimes."

"But, just so you know, you're not the only one."

The loss of Liam at the tender age of 31 has been confirmed today. The former One Direction member was enjoying a getaway in Buenos Aires with his partner Kate Cassidy when he tragically fell from the fourth floor of their hotel.

A grim discovery was made within the hotel's internal courtyard. Following an alert from the establishment's manager, police arrived on the scene.

It is suspected that Liam plummeted from a height of roughly 13 or 14 metres, resulting in "very serious injuries incompatible with life."

An official statement from the local ambulance service to TN disclosed: "At 17.04 through the 911 integrated public safety system, we were alerted of a person who was in an internal courtyard of the management of a south house hotel."

"The response by the SAME team was pronounced at 17.11 as they attended and confirmed the individual's deathsubsequently identified as a vocalist of a music band. Regrettably, he sustained injuries that precluded survival due to the fall, necessitating the declaration of his death as revival efforts were futile."
