Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's 'new holiday home' causes outrage among 'upset' locals - 'typical greed'

Residents of Comporta, Portugal, are up in arms after their once-public coastline has been snapped up by the wealthy elite at the CostaTerra beach resort, where it's rumored Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have bagged themselves a new holiday home .

It used to be against the law in Portugal to block off public beaches, but now the rules have changed, letting councils and government bodies turn them into "private" spots where the royals - who were kicked out of their UK home of Frogmore Cottage - are thought to be spending time.

This has led to beloved natural areas in the Algarve being shut off, much to the dismay of locals who've loved these places. One local, Bradley McGuiness, vented: "Worst thing to happen to the Portuguese coast, typical greed situation. Taking land and property from locals who have been enjoying it for years."

Another resident, Andre Andrade, piped up: "I am very upset by this massive piece of Portuguese land destroyed for the rich, removed from the average local that had been creating memories in this place for generations and generations."

And Diana Queiroz chimed in with: "I have been going to this place for years, camped there several times, and, because of this company, this is no longer possible."

Mike, a co-founder of Casamigos tequila alongside George Clooney and Rande Gerber (Cindy Crawford's husband), has been mates with Princess Eugenie's husband Jack for years. Jack is involved in marketing, sales, and promotion for Mike's Discovery Land Company, which specialises in creating luxurious private golf and residential holiday communities worldwide, reports the Express .

Since 2019, the Discovery Land Company has been developing a highly coveted 722-acre beachfront plot in Comporta. The resort, once finished, is expected to house 300 homes, with prices starting at a staggering £3.6million.

Princess Eugenie, Jack, and their two children August, 3, and Ernest, 1, currently have a holiday property on-site, offering stunning views over the Atlantic. The family also enjoys access to an 18-hole golf course, spa, and equestrian center.

Madonna's favorite stables, Cavalos na Areia, are just around the corner, and the singer is known to have frequently ridden her horses along the nearby Pego beach in recent years. Before buying property in Portugal, both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank took turns living at Frogmore Cottage, a historic Grade II listed home located on the King's Windsor estate.
