Many might have expected the new "Dudes on Dudes" podcast featuring Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman to focus on their shared history as teammates on the New England Patriots . However, in a surprising twist, on Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield .

Gronkowski, who spent the final two years of his professional career with the Buccaneers from 2020-2021 and won Super Bowl LV alongside Tom Brady , said he was "taking off his Patriots hat" for a moment to sing Mayfield's praises.

"He's the ultimate teammate," Gronkowski said of the current Tampa Bay signal caller. "He's like the ultimate locker room guy. Quarterbacks aren't really like this."

"He's a quarterback that will go have a beer at the bar and get ------- up with you," he continued. "You can just tell he's a guy like that. He's a guy that will come over and chop it up while watching the game. He's a guy that wants to see you be an absolute dog. He's a guy that's cheering you on."

A few weeks ago, Mayfield claimed Brady brought a "high-strung" environment during his time as the Tampa Bay starter, reports the Mirror US .

Mayfield was the first overall pick by the Cleveland Browns in the 2018 NFL Draft. He led the franchise to their first playoff win since 1994.

Cleveland ultimately chose to part ways with Mayfield in favour of current starter Deshaun Watson before the 2022 season. Gronkowski remarked, "I [think] it was the best thing that ever happened to Baker, getting let go by Cleveland."

After brief stints with the Carolina Panthers and the Los Angeles Rams, Mayfield found his footing as the starting quarterback for Tampa Bay, leading them to a division title and a playoff win in his first year.

"What I like about the dude is he's just a normal dude," Gronkowski added. "He just wants to have a good time. He actually signed a three-year, $100 million deal the morning of, and then he came to the workout session that day, and it was like nothing happened."

"He just showed up. He didn't have an ego or a big head or nothing. He just showed up, put the work in, and hit some more [personal records]."

With a strong start to the season for the 4-2 Buccaneers, Mayfield boasts a 70.9 percent completion rate and is eighth in the NFL with 1,489 passing yards.

The "Dudes on Dudes" podcast aims to cover various players from across the NFL: "In each episode, Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman will highlight three dudes from the world of sports; discussing what makes them special, reliving their most memorable performances, and sharing stories that were never meant to leave the locker room."
