A Reddit user asked fellow posters for suggestions on the best small towns to visit in Ireland during a week-long trip next year.

From their research, they gathered Dublin , Galway, Cork, and Killarney to be the most popular.

The age range for the group is mid to late twenties, with interests that include historical sites, dining, shopping, and immersive experiences within the local community.

While they plan to rent a car, they said they’re also looking to enjoy nature and the outdoors, as they’re open to leisurely walks with gorgeous views.

A Reddit user replied to the thread and suggested Kenmare down in Kerry, and a second commenter agreed, stating the restaurants in Kenmare are fantastic and a lovely town to stroll through.

One person suggested Skibbereen as an option outside the typical recommendations. This town features a heritage center that provides information about Lough Hyne, a nearby park that offers night kayaking.

Additionally, Skibbereen has rare bookshops, a converted Masonic hall, and stunning coastal views.

Another user revealed Waterford to be an underrated gem of a town. It features great pubs, cafés, restaurants, and museums, and is also close to the coast, offering good music, drinks, and friendly people.

If you visit Cork, be sure to check out Kinsale, which a Reddit user described as their favorite small town, while considering Galway their favorite big town. Both towns are not to be missed, they added.

Dingle is another small town recommendation that has a quaint-like atmosphere and makes you feel right at home, according to one commenter.

All posters seemingly agreed that Kenmare is the top town pick because of its easy access to the Ring of Kerry and Beara Peninsula, a scenic coastline stretching 140 km in the southwest of Ireland.

The Ring of Kerry is renowned for its natural beauty, showcasing gorgeous coastal cliffs, lakes, and picturesque valleys, while the Beara Peninsula is a region that extends into the Atlantic Ocean and is considered home to one of Ireland’s largest fishing fleets.
