Comedy you can stream on Netflix now is 'a load of good Irish fun'

A film filled with ‘a load of good Irish fun ’, Hard Times, originally called Holy Water, is now available to watch on Netflix.

Four men, Tom Gaffney played by John Lynch, Podger Byrnes played by Cornelius Clarke, Donal O’Connell played by Lochlann O’Mearáin, and Sean Casey played by Cian Barry, come together looking to get-rich-quick but soon turn into criminals on the run from the authorities.

The film, which takes place in Northern Ireland , and is stacked with Irish actors , came out in 2009 and won Best Film at the first ever New York Friars Club Comedy Film Festival.

The website theirishroadtrip.com put together a list of the “Best Irish Movies on Netflix in 2024”, and put Hard Times at number one.

A fictitious town, the Village of Kilcoulin's Leap, is starting to get boring to the four bachelors. Looking to make some money, they decide to execute a plan before realizing they are all in way over their heads.

This band of boys, led by the village mailman Podger Byrnes, hijacks a truck filled with viagra pills, planning to resell them in Amsterdam.

After the pills end up being worth more than they thought, the boys have to figure out where to hide them from officer Cory Williams, played by Linda Hamilton, and her team.

On the Movie’s IMDB page, the reviews say it is a fun, funny and feel good film.

“At last, a film set in Ireland not about "the troubles" or the sleazier side of the working classes. Although, that's not to say this film isn't without its sleazy characters. But, this is a fun film,” one user wrote in February 2010, giving the movie 10 out of 10 stars.
