Dog trainer slams 'hardest breed to train in world' that he would 'never own'

A dog training expert has revealed the most challenging dog breed to train that professionals like him never own.

Canine behaviorist Will Atherton has amassed a following of more than 900,000 on TikTok by sharing dog training tips as well as advice on what breeds are suitable for which people, depending on the dog 's temperament and the person's lifestyle.

In one of his viral videos, Will addressed the question: "What is the hardest dog breed I've ever had to train?" And with his extensive experience working with thousands of dogs and hundreds of different breeds, Will is well-positioned to answer this question.

He explained that the hardest dogs to train are usually those bred to work "very independently". He added: "You combine that with violent or guarding tendencies, and it often means - not necessarily that they're harder to train - but the potential for things going wrong goes through the roof."

According to Will, livestock guardian breeds like the Caucasian Shepherd or the Turkish Kangal fit this description "perfectly". However, he also identified a more popular breed that he finds consistently "challenging" to train - the Siberian Husky.

He said: "It's why you will rarely, if ever, see practicing dog trainers or canine professionals actually owning them. And my opinion is that they are more cat than they are dog."

People have been chiming in with tales of their experiences with Huskies in the comments section, largely agreeing with what the expert had to say. One person posted: "As a third time Husky owner I partially agree with that statement. They sure are stubborn and independent, though very smart, they just get bored, really." Another shared: "Yep! My Husky has been through three trainers. He listens most of the time."

the key to training any dog, is to be smarter than the dog. if you can not achieve this, you should not have any dog... period.
