Second teen arrested in connection with counselor death at Lincoln Hills School

MERRILL, Wis. -- A second teenager has been charged in the assault of two staff members at Lincoln Hills School, which led to the death of one.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Rian Nyblom, 17, was arrested Thursday. Nyblom has been charged with one count of felony murder, and two counts of battery by prisoners as party to a crime.

Nyblom is being held at the Lincoln County Jail on a $20,000 cash bond.

The Sheriff's Office said Nyblom was incarcerated in the same unit as Javarius Hurd, 16, at the time of the assault.

The incident occurred Monday night at Lincoln Hills School in Irma , a juvenile correctional facility operated by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.

The staff member, Corey Proulx, 49, suffered critical injuries while attempting to detain a juvenile inmate after the teen allegedly attacked another staff member at the school.

Proulx, a youth counselor at the school, died Tuesday from his injuries .

During a court appearance on Wednesday, a judge ruled that Hurd will be charged as an adult.

A joint investigation by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, Wisconsin State Patrol, and Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office is still ongoing.
