7-22-24 free child car seat safety check
Each year, thousands of young children are killed or injured in car crashes. Proper use of car seats helps keep children safe. In addition, four out of five car seats are not used or installed correctly. Because so many different seats are on the market, many parents find this overwhelming. The good news is that help is available locally through SSM Health and Fond du Lac Fire Rescue. A free Car Seat Safety Check event is scheduled from 4 – 7 pm on Monday, August 12 at the Fond du Lac Fire Department Station 1, 815 S. Main Street, Fond du Lac (next to Gilles Frozen Custard). A certified technician will ensure a new or existing car seat is safe and properly installed, and answer questions about making transitions between car seats, booster seats, and regular seat belts. Free car seats are available for eligible families facing financial barriers. Interested parents are asked to bring their child, car seat, car seat instructions, and vehicle owner’s manual to the event. Limited availability. Preregistration is required to secure a spot. To register, email: FDLcarseatprogram@ssmhealth.com.
